How to get more players on your Roblox game

A practical, step-by-step plan for getting players to a Roblox game: fix what Roblox measures first, then make your page earn the click, then bring players in.

Most advice about getting players starts with promotion: ads, sponsors, YouTubers. That's the last step, not the first. Roblox's recommendation system decides how many players it sends you based on what happens after they arrive, so promoting a game that loses new players quickly just buys a short spike.

Here's the order we'd work in.

1. Know where you stand

Before changing anything, write down a baseline from your Creator Analytics:

  • Day 1 and day 7 retention
  • Average session length
  • How many new players leave in the first minute
  • Where your players come from (home recommendations, search, friends, ads)

You'll use these to tell whether each change helped. Our guide to reading your Roblox analytics explains what each number means.

2. Fix the first few minutes

Roblox names first-play bounce rate (players who leave within one or three minutes) as one of its most important ranking signals. See how the Roblox algorithm recommends games for the full list.

  • Get players doing the fun thing within 30 seconds. Cut long intros and menus.
  • Teach by doing, not by text boxes.
  • Give a reward or unlock in the first minute.
  • Test on a phone. Most Roblox players are on mobile, and a game that is awkward to control on a touch screen loses them fast.

3. Give players a reason to return

Roblox now looks at play over 28 days, not 7. Players who come back across several weeks count for a lot.

  • Daily rewards and streaks
  • Progression that takes days, not minutes
  • Regular updates and timed events, announced in advance
  • Things to do with friends, since co-play is a ranking signal too

See planning updates that bring players back.

4. Make your game page earn the click

Once the game holds players, make sure the people who see it actually click:

  • Icon: one clear subject, strong contrast, readable at 150 pixels. Check yours with the thumbnail size tool.
  • Thumbnails: honest gameplay at 1920×1080. A custom thumbnail is required for home page recommendations.
  • Title: the hook and genre in the first 24 characters. Try the title checker.
  • Description: what you do in the game in the first line. See how to write a Roblox game description.

5. Study games like yours that are growing

Look at games in your genre that grew recently, not the giants that have been on top for years. What did they change before they took off: a new icon, an update, an event? BloxIQ's genre rankings and monthly trends report show who is rising, and every tracked game's page shows its title, icon and thumbnail changes over time.

6. Bring in the first players

With the game ready, promotion works much better:

  • Friends and testers first. A handful of players who return every day give Roblox early signals.
  • Your own community. A Discord server and a Roblox group for update news. See building a community.
  • Short videos. Clips of the best moment in your game on TikTok, YouTube Shorts and X.
  • Developer communities. Share progress on the DevForum and r/robloxgamedev for feedback (read each place's rules on self-promotion first).
  • Ads and sponsored placements, once your retention is solid. Roblox doesn't count ad-acquired players towards its recommendation signals, so ads get you seen but the game has to keep them.

7. Change one thing at a time

Every time you change your icon, title or first minute, note the date and wait a week before judging. If you change three things at once you won't know which one worked.

Checklist

  • Baseline recorded: retention, session length, first-minute bounce, traffic sources
  • Players reach the fun part in 30 seconds, on a phone
  • A reason to come back tomorrow and next week
  • Icon, thumbnails, title and description checked
  • Growing games in your genre studied
  • One change at a time, each judged after a week
